Following completion of his PhD thesis in laboratory-based research in scleroderma with Professors Black and Denton, Dr Ong completed his specialist training in rheumatology in Oxford before returning to the Royal Free in 2008. He now works with Professor Denton and Dr Fonseca in the connective tissue diseases clinic and is an integral member of the multidisciplinary team to care for the patients with Scleroderma on the rheumatology ward. Dr Ong joins Professor Denton in the Outreach Clinics in other hospitals to look after patients with Scleroderma in collaboration with rheumatology consultants in these hospitals.
Dr Ong works closely with Professors Denton and Abraham in supporting an active clinical and laboratory research programme in Scleroderma, with a particular focus on identification of potential target molecules, which may be used to develop novel treatments. Some of these molecules have been selected as a potential targets in clinical trials for our patients.
